For over 150 years, Durham has stood as a destination city in the American South and hosts a variety of historical, must-see sights to give a glimpse into its past. Drive down to Bennett Place—the site of the negotiations that ended the Civil War—or walk downtown to see the influences of the American Tobacco monopoly. Explore the Hayti Heritage Center and the Woolworth lunch counter where sit-ins occurred during the 20th century civil rights movement. Stroll through its many museums to discover Durham's story.

Hungry off campus? Durham offers a rich assortment of cuisine from across the globe. Try classic southern cooking and soul food or order from that regional chain restaurant you've always wanted to try (the appeal of Cookout is irresistible).
